Smoke is passed through charged plates before it is allowed to come out of chimney's in factories. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ans: Smoke coming out of chimneys in factories is a colloidal solution of carbon in air. It is made to pass through charged plates before allowed to come out of chimneys. These piates neutralize the charge on colloidal carbon particles. Carbon particles get precipitated and settle down while hot air passes out through the chimney.
