A sample of galena (PbS) is contaminated with zinc blende (ZnS). Name one chemical which can be used to concentrate galena selectively by froth floatation method?

Text Solution

Sodium cyanide. It"reacts with ZnS to form a complex .Na_1^4[Zn(CN)_4]_1. thus preventing it from forming the froth. Now only. PbS fornis froth and hence can be separated from ZnS impurity.
