How is ammonia manufactured industrially?

Text Solution

Ammonia is manufactured industrially by Haber.s process: .N_2~g+3 H_2~g^* 2 NH_3~g: Delta_b H^circ=-46.1 kJmol^-. In accordance with Le Chatelier.s principle. high pressure wóuld favourthe formation of ammonia. The optimum conditions for the production of ammonia are a pressure of .200 times 10^5 ~Pa_.. abbout 200 atm , a temperature öf .sim 700 ~K. and the use of a catalyst suich as iron .oxide with small amounts of .K, O. and .Al_2 O_3. to increase the rate of attainment of equilibrium. The chart for the production of ammonia is shown in figure below: figure
