It can be explained op the basis of-sp .hybridisation in .NH_3. and only s-p bonding between hydrogen and other elements of the group. .beginarray/lllNH_3 PH_3 AsH_3endarray. .beginarray/llll1078^circ 93.6^circ 9[8^circ. 91.3^circendarray. As we move down the group, the size of the central atom goes on increasing and its electronegativity goes on decreasing. As a result, the bond pairs of clectrons tend to lie away from the central atom as we move from .NH_3. to .SbH_3.. In other words, the force of repulsion between .the adjacent bond pairs is maximum in .NH_3. minimum in .SbH_3.. Consequently the bond angle is maximum in .NH_3. and minimum in .SbH_y.

Assertion: The bond angle in alcohols is slightly less than the tetrahedral angle. Reason: In alcohols, the oxygen.of -OH group is attached to carbon by a sigma bond formed by the overlap of a sp^3 hybridised orbital of carbon with sp^3 hybridised orbital of oxygen.
