Give the-disproportionation reaction of 'H_3 PO_3'

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Disproportionation reaction is one in which the same element undergoes both oxidation as well as reduction i.e., there is an increase as well as decrease in its oxidation number. Thus +3 oxidation state in H_3 PO_3 increases to +5 in H_s PO_4 and decreases to -3 in the following reaction H_3 PO_3^* rarr H_3 PO_4+PH_3 Oxidation state : +3 +5 -3
