SO_2. and .SO_3. are harmful gaseous pollutants. .SO_2. is released into atmosphere.through volcanic erruptions and accounts for .67 %. of total .SO., present in atmosphere. The remaining .33 %. comes from hìman activity. The .SO_2. present in the atmosphere undergoes oxidation to .SO_3. which in presence of moisture is converted into sulphuric acid .H_2 SO_4.. This is responsible for acid rain. .SO_2. causés acute irritation to eyes and respiratory tract of humans and animals.
