Calculate the magnetic moment of the divalent ion in aqueous solution if its atomic number is 26

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Z=26 for .(Fe) F (e)=[(Ar)] 3 (~d)^(d) 4 (~s)^(2). .(Fe)^(3+)=[(Ar)] 3 (~d)^(6) .. It has 4 unpaired electrons. i.e.. .n=. 4 Magnetic moment, .mu=sqrt(n(n+2).
=sqrt(4(4+2)=sqrt(4 xx 6)=sqrt(24)=4.89
