Chromium (Cr), Molybdenum (Mo) and Tungsten '(W)' are hard metals whereas Zn, Cd Hg and are not so hard. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Cr. Mo and W have maximum ntimber.of unpaired electrons .therefore. stronger metallic bonds are present in them. Hence they are hard. Zn,Cd,Hg do not have any unpaired electrons. Hence they are not so hard.
