[Fe(CN)6]^4- and [Fe(H2 O)6]^2+ are of different colours. in dilute solutions. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is because .CN^-. is strong field ligand whereas .H_2 O. is weak field ligand a a result complexes differ in magnitude of crystal field .splitting, energy .(Delta_0). that is why they absorb different wavelengths and radiate different colours from visible region.
