The formation of 5 .or 6 membered rings by. tridentate or polydentate ligands with central metal atom/ion is called chelation and the exfra stability. which the cxamples acquires because of this is called .chelate effect. Eg: .[Co(NH_3)_6]^3+.. is less stable than .[Co(en)]^3+.
