[Ni(CN)_4 P^3-.. is diamagnetic square planar complex ion whereais .(NiCl_4)^2-. is a pảramagnetic tetrahedral complex. These two examples illustrate the generalisation that .Magnetic criteria of the bond type which means that the geometry of the coordinate sphere can be.predicted by knowing its magnetic behaviour. As clear from the examples, the diamagnetic species shows square planar geometry whereas paramagnetic species show tetrahedral geometry.
