Out of the various possible isomer of `C_7 H_7 C l `containing a benzene ring, suggest the structure with the weakest C-CI bond

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Four isomers are possible FIGURE The C-CI bond in o, m- and p-chloro toluene has somne double bond character due to resonance. In contrast, in benzyl chloride, the C-CI bond is a pure single bond. Hence out of 4 isomers the C-CI bond in benzyl chloride is the weakest.
