What is the basic structural difference between starch and cellulose?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The basic, structural differetice between stirch and cellulose is of linkage between the glucose units. In starch, there'is 'alpha' -D-gluco'sidic linkige. Both the components of starchamylose and amylopectine are polyiner of 'alpha' -D-glacose. On the other hand, cellulose is linear polymer of 'beta' - 'D' -glucose in which 'C_1' of one glucose unit is connected to 'C_4' of the other through 'beta' -D-glucosidic linkage.
