Oprically'active amino acid with molecular formula 'C_3 H_2 NO_pm', is alamine. FIGURE Alamine can exist in three forms I, III, depending on the pH of the medium. FIGURE i) In nqueous nedium the compound A exists as a zwitter ion (II) ii) The cationic form (I)'exists in acidie medium. iii) It exists in the anionic form (III) in alkaline me- dium and will migrate towards the anode under the influence of an electrid field.
