Why should we always use purest monomer in free radical polymerisation?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Because evien traces of impurities, :which can act as chain transfer agent (inhibitor), can interfere with the original polymerisation chain reaction. Hence mogomers should be free from all impurities, examples of inhibitors (or chain transfer agents) are 'CCl_J, CBr_e' amines, phenols, quinones etc.
