Cleansing uction of soap is dtie fo the emulsification of grease and tiking it away in the woter along with dirt and dust present on grease. A soap molecule contains a non polar hydrophosic group and a polar hydrophilie group. (Soap sodium salt of higher fatty ecids). The dirt is held on the surface of clothes by the oil or grease present here.Since the oil or grease is not soluble ih waer, the dirt particles cannot be rerinoved by simoly washing- the cloth with water. When soap is Ipplied the non polar alkyl group dissolyes in oil droplets while the polar - COO-Na' groups remain dissolyed in water. Thus cach oil droplet is şurwounded by negative charge, These negatively charged oil droplets cáannot come together and it stable emulsion is formed. These oil droplets ean de washed away with water along with dirt paricles.
