Why are the classification systems changing every now and then?

Organisms are classified on the basis of characteristics. In early days, human beings
needed to find out the various sources for their basic needs for shelter, food, clothing
etc. Therefore the earliest classification were based on the uses of various organisms.
But now human are interested in knowing more about organisms.
