Ascus is formed in Ascomycetes whereas basidia are formed in basidi¬omycetes. Ascus encloses 8 ascospores which are borne endogenously. The ba¬sidium produces 4 basidiospores which are borne exogenously. The basidiospores are attached to basidia by means of sterigma whereas ascospores are filled inside the ascus
