Some fungi are edible eg: Agaricus campestris.Penicillium chrysogenum is ussed for the production of the antibiotic penicillin.Yeasts have the ability to ferment certain cugar. Some fungi are parasitic on plants, animals and human beings, often causing diseases. Examples are Ustilago cames smut diseases in most of the cereal plants. The fungus aspergillus commonly contaminates cultures and hencce called weed of laboratory. It causes rotting of apples, figs,tobacco etc.
