A solid spere is rotating freely about its symmetry axis in free space. The radius of the sphere is increased keeping its mass same.Which of the following physical quantites would remain constant for the sphere?

A

moment of inertia

B

Angular momentum

C

Angular velocity

D

Rotational kinetic energy

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

In free space, neither acceleration due to gravity nor external nor external torque act on the rotating solid sphere. Therefore, taking the same mass of sphere if radius is increased then moment of inertia, rotational kinetic energy and angular velocity will change but according to law of conservation of momentum, angular momentum will not change
