In the figure two concentric conducting ...

In the figure two concentric conducting shells of radius R & 2R are shown. The inner shell is charged with Q and the shell is unchanged. The amount of energy dissipated when the shells are connected by a conducting wire is:

A

`(KQ^(2))/(4R)`

B

`(kQ^(2))/(2R)`

C

`(kQ^(2))/(8R)`

D

`(3kQ^(2))/4`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

`U_(i)=(KQ^(2))/(2R) U_(t)=(KQ^(2))/(2(2R))`
(whole charge will get transformed to outer sphere)
so heat `=(KQ^(2))/(2(2R)) =(KQ^(2))/(4R)`
