Statement-1 : When ultraviolet light is ...

Statement-1 : When ultraviolet light is incidient on a photocell, its stopping potential is `V_(0)` and the maximum kinetic energy of the photoelectrons is `K_(max)`. When the ultraviolet light is replaced by X-rays, both `V_(0)` and `K_(max)` increase.
Statement-2 : Photoelectrons are emitted with speeds ranging from zero to a maximum value because of the rangeg of frequencies present in the incident light.

A

Statement-1 is True, Statement-2 is True, Statement-2 is a correct explanation for Statement-1

B

Statement-1 is True, Statement-2 is True, Statement-2 is not a correct explanation for Statement -1

C

Statement-1 is False , Statement-2 is True

D

Statement -1 is true, Statement-2 is false

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

Energy of X-rays photon is greater then ultraviolet photon.
So, `V_(0)` and `K_(max)` increases.
Electrons have speed ranging from `0` to maximum, because before emitting a large number of collisions take palce and energy is losst in collision.
