A wave of wavelength 0.60 cm is produced...

A wave of wavelength 0.60 cm is produced in air and it travels at a speed of` 300 ms^-1`. Will it be audible?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

From the relation `v = vlambda`, the frequency of the wave is
`v = (v)/(lambda) = (300 m//s)/(4 xx 10^(-3)m) = 75000 Hz`.
This is much above the audible range. It is an ultrasonic wave and will not be audible to humans, but it will be audible to bats.
