A mixutre solution of KOH and `Na_2CO_3` requires 15 " mL of " `(N)/(20)` HCl when titrated with phenolphthalein as indicator. But the same amoound of the solutions when titrated with methyl orange as indicator requires 25 " mL of " the same acid. Calculate the amount of KOH present in the solution.

A

0.014 g

B

0.14 g

C

0.028 g

D

1.4 g

The correct Answer is:
A

`underset(a Mili eq.)(KOH)+underset(b Mili eq.)(Na_2CO_3)`
`a+b/2=15xx1/20`
2a+b=1.5 ..(i) (in presence of phenolphthalein)
`a+b=25xx1/20=1.25`…(ii)(in presence of Methyl orange)
by solving (i) & (ii) a = 0.25 Mili eq.
mass of KOH=`0.25/1000xx56=0.014` gm

0.58 g of CH_3(CH_2)_(c)COOH was burnt in excess air and the resulting gases (CO_2 and H_2O ) were passed through excess NaOH solution. The resulting solution was divided into two equal parts. One part requires 50 " mL of " 1.0 M HCl for complete neutralisation using phenolphthalein indicator. Another part required 80 " mL of " same HCl for neutralisation using methyl orange as indicator. Calculate the value of n and the amount of excess NaOH solution taken initially.

NaoH and Na_(2)CO_(3) are dissolved in 200 ml aqeous solution. In the presence of phenolpthaleim indicator, 17.5 ml of 0.1 HCl are used to titrated this solution. Now methyl orange is added in the same solution titrated and requires 2.5 ml of the same HCl. Calculate the mass of NaOH & NaCO_(3) .

A sample of NaHCO_(3) + Na_(2)CO_(3) required 20 ml of HCl using phenolphthalein as indicator and 35ml more required if methyl orange is used as indicator . Then molar ratio of NaHCO_(3) to Na_(2)CO_(3) is

In the study of titration of NaOH and Na_(2)CO_(3) . NaOH and NaHCO_(3) , Na_(2)CO_(3) and NaHCO_(3) , phenophthalein and methyl orange are used as indicators. (a). When phenolphthalein is used as an indicator for the above mixture: (i). It indicates complete neutralisation of NaOH or KOH (ii). It indicates half neutralisation of Na_(2)CO_(3) because NaHCO_(3) is formed at the end point. (b). When methyl orange is used as an indicator for the above mixture (i). It indicates complete neutralisation of NaOH or KOH (ii). It indicates half neutralisation of Na_(2)CO_(3) because NaCl is formed at the end point.
