S-1:It lowers the fusion temperature of `MgCl_2` and provide conductivity to the elecrolyte.
S-2: `MgCl_2. 6H_2O` is calcined in a stream of dry HCl gas to have anhydrous `MgCl_2` . In absence of dry HCl. It forms `Mg_2OCl_2 (MgO. MgCl_2)` because of hydrolysis .
