The bob of simple pendulum is a spherical hollow ball filled with water. A plugged hole near the bottom of the oscillating bob gets suddenly unplugged. During observation, till water is coming out, the time period of oscillation would.

A

first decreased and then increase to the original value

B

first increase and then decrease to the original value

C

remain unchanged

D

increase towards a saturation value

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

`T lt T_(1) gt (T_(2) = T)`

`T = 2pi sqrt((l)/(g)) , T = 2pi sqrt((l+Deltal)/(g))`

`T_(2) = 2pi sqrt((l)/(g)) = T.`
and `T_(1) gt T_(2)`
Hence, time period first increases and then decreases to the original value.

Assertion : The bob of a simple pendulum is a ball full of water, if a fine hole is made in the bottom of the ball, the time period first increases and then decreases. Reason : As water flows out of the bob the weight of bob decreases.

A hollow sphere is taken as bob of a simple pendulum. This hollow sphere is filled with fine sand. There is a small hole at the bottom of this sphere through which the fine sand leaks out. How does the time period of this simple pendulum alter? Discuss.

Suppose the bob in a simple pendulum is a hollow sphere with a small hole at the bottom. The sphere is filled with water and is made to oscillate. What happens to the period ?

The bob of a simple pendulum of length /has a positive charge q on it. The pendulum is fixed to a horizontally oriented positively charged sheet as shown in the figure. The time period of the small oscillations of simple pendulum is

The bob of simple pendulum executes SHM in water with a period T, while the period of oscillation of the bob is T_(0) in air. Neglecting frictional force of water and given that the density of the bob is (4000)/(3)kgm^(-3) , find the ration between T and T_(0) .
