What is the main reason for axial charomatic aberration in the formation of image by an lens ?

Text Solution

Form the lens maker's formula,
`(1)/(f)=(mu-1)((1)/(R_(1))-(1)/(R_(2)))`
When the lens of is kept in a liquid medium having the same refraction index, `mu=1`
In the above relation, settiong `mu=1`, we have
`(1)/(f)=0` or `f=infty`

A linear object is placed on the axis of a lens. An image is formed by refraction in the lens. For all positions of the object on the axis of the lens, the positions of the image are always between the lens and the object. (i) Name the lens. (ii) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of the image of an object placed in front of the lens at any position of your choice except infinity.

A student focussed the image of a candle flame on a white screen using a convex lens. He noted down the position of the candle, screen and the lens as under Position of candle = 12.0 cm Position of convex lens = 50.0 cm Position of the screen = 88.0 cm (i) What is the focal length of the convex lens ? (ii) Where will the image be formed if he shifts the candle towards the lens at a position of 31.0 cm . (iii) What will be the nature of the image formed if he further shifts the candle towards the lens ? (iv) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of the image in case (iii) as said above.

Assertion : A thick lens shows more chromatic aberration. Reason : Thick lens behave as many thin lenses.

A converging lens is used to obtain an image of an object placed in front of it. The inverted image is formed between F_(2)and2F_(2) of the lens. Draw a ray diagram to illustrate the formation of the image obtained.
