Statement: The number of unpaired electrons in the following gaseous ion:
`Mn^(3+),Cr^(3+),V^(3+) and Ti^(3+)` are `4,3,2` and 1 respectively
Statement: `Cr^(3+)`is most stable in aqeous solution among these ions.

A

Statement-1 is true, statement-2 is true, statement-2 is a correct explanation for statement-1

B

statement-1 is true, statement-2 is true, statement-2 is NOT a correct explanation for statement-1

C

Statement-1 is true, statement-2 is false.

D

Statement-1 is false, statement-2 is true.

The correct Answer is:
B

`Mg^(3+)=[Ar]^(18)3d^(4),Cr^(+3)=[Ar]^(18)3d^(3),V^(3+)=[Ar]^(18)3d^(2),Ti^(3+)=[Ar]^(18)3d^(1)`
`Cr^(3+)` is most stable in aqueous solution because it has half filled `t_(2g)^(3)` energy level of 3d orbitals I octahedral crystal field spliting and according to crystal field theory (CFT) it has highest value of ` CFSE` i.e., 1.2 `Delta_(O)`.
