`NaCl_((aq))` gives a white precipitate with `AgNO_(3)` solution but `C Cl_(4) or CHCl_(3)` does not , because

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

NaCl is an ionic compound and hence gives `Cl^(–)` ions in the solution which combine with `Ag^(+)` ions given by `AgNO_(3)` to form a white precipitate of AgCl but `C Cl_(4)` is a covalent compound and does not give `Cl^(–)` ions.
