The isotopes of hydrogen have different physical properties due to difference in mass. They have almost same chemical properties with a difference in their rates of reactions which is mainly due to

The sum of the number of neutrons and protons in the isotopes of hydrogen is :

Name the isotopes of hydrogen and mention their relative abundance in naturally occurring hydrogen

Assertion : All the three isotope of hydrogen have almost the same chemical properties. Reason : Isotopes differ from one another in respect of the presence of neutrons.

Name the isotopes of hydrogen.

The possible sum of the number of neutrons and protons in the isotope of hydrogen is :

Write the names of the three isotopes of hydrogen. What is the mass ratio of thse isotopes?

Deuterium is the isotope of hydrogen of mass number 2 , with a proton and a neutron in its nucleus. The chemistry of deuterium is nearly identical to the chemistry of hydrogen, except that C-D bond is slightly (5.0 "KJ" //"mole") stonger than the C-H bond. Reaction rates tend to be slower if a C-D bond as opposed to a C-H bond is broken in a rate limiting step. This effect on the rate is called a kinetic isotope effect.
