The following reaction occurs :
`6Fe^(2+) + Cr_(2)O_(7)^(2-) + 14H^(+) rarr 6 Fe^(3+) + 2 Cr^(3+) + 7H_(2)O`
From the above equation, we find that Mohr's salt `(FeSO_(4).(NH_(4))_(2)SO_(4).6H_(2)O)` and dichromate reacts in 6:1 molar ratio.

Potassium dichromate is used as'lab reagent and dichromate ion can be used as a primary standard in volumetric analysis. (1)/(2)Cr_(2)O_(7)^(2-)+7H^(+)+3e^(-)iffCr^(3+)+3(1)/(2)H_(2)O,E^(@)=1.33V When H_(2)O_(2) is added to an acidified' solution of dichromate, a complicated reaction occurs. The formation of product depends on the pH value and concentration of dichromate ions. A deep-blue violet peroxo compound X is formed which decomposes rapidly in aqueous solution. This compound can be extracted in ether, where it reacts with pyridine forming the adduct PyCro(O_(2))_(2) In alkaline solution, K_(2)Cr_(2)O_(7) with 30% H_(2)O_(2) a red-brown compound Y (K_(3) CrO_(8) is formed. In ammonia solution the dark red-brown compound. Z [(NH_(3)),CrO_(4)] is formed. In alkaline solution, dichromate ion changes to chromate ion which is also used as reagent in quantitative analysis of cations QThe number of moles of Cr_(2)O_(7)^(2-) required in acidic medium to oxidize 1 mol of ferric oxalate is

Assertion: In the titration of Na_(2)CO_(3) with HCl using methyl orange indicator, the volume of acid required is twice that of the acid required using phenolphthalein as indicaton. Reason: Two moles of HCl are required for the complete neutralisation of one mole of Na_(2)CO_(3) .

Properties, whose values depend only on the concentration of solute particles in solution and not on the identity of the solute are called colligative properties.there may be change in number of moles of solute due to ionisation or association hence these properties are also affected.Number of moles of the product is related to degree of ionisation or association by van Hoff factor 'i' given by i=[1+(n-1)alpha] for dissociation where n is the number of products (ions or molecules ) obtained per mole of the reactant. & i=[1+(1/n-1)alpha] for association where n is number of reactant particles associated to give 1 mole product.A dilute solution contains 't' moles of solute X in 1 kg of solvent with molal elevation constant K_b .The solute dimerises in the solution according to the following equation. The degree of association is alpha . 2X hArr X_2 The colligaive properties observed will be
