Differentiate between Phylloclade and cladode

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Phylloclades are green, flattened or cylindrical branches of unlimited growth. These occur in xerophytic plants like Opuntia, Casuarina and some species of Euphorbia. In these, the leaves may fall early or get modified into spines. In Asparagus, the branches of limited growth become green and flat like a leaf. These are called cladodes.
