In the first compound, if hydrogen is `5.93%` then oxygen must be `100 -5.93 = 94.07%`
If 5.93 parts of hydrogen combine with `94.07` parts of oxygen, then 1 part of hydrogen will combine with `(94.07)/(5.93)=15.86` parts oxygen.
In the second compound, if hydrogen is `11.2%` then oxygen must be `100 - 11.2 = 88.80%.`
If 11.2 parts of hydrogen combine with parts of oxygen, then 1 part of hydrogen will combine with parts `(88.80)/(11.2)=7.93` oxygen.
The ratio of oxygen in parts that combine with 1 part of hydrogen `= 15.86 : 7.93 = 2 : 1`
Since, `2 : 1` is a simple ratio, it is in agreement with the law of multiple proportions.
