The composition of a sample of Wustite is `Fe_(0.93)O_(1.00)`. What percentage of the iron is present in the form of `Fe (III)`?

A

`15.05%`

B

`10%`

C

`48.4%`

D

`16.66%`

The correct Answer is:
A

According to stoichiometric composition, there are 93 units of `Fe (Fe^(+2) and Fe^(+3))` and 100 units of oxygen.
Say x are `Fe^(+3) and (93-x)" are "Fe^(+2)`. As they neutralize 100 atoms of oxygen, the charges present of Fe units would be 200.
Thus `x xx 3+2(93-x)=200, 3x+186-2x=200, x=14`
Thus `%=(14)/(93)xx100=15.05%`
