The first(IE_(1)) and second (IE_(2))Ionization energies (KJ/mol) of a few elements designated by roman numerals are given below.Which of these would be an alkali metal?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Element III is an alkaline earth metal, keeping in mind the comparable values of `IE_1 and IE_2.` The values are not on the higher side also. As these metals show stable (+2) states after losing both their electrons so they will form binary halides with monovalent halogens.
