Equation of line touching both the parabolas `y^2=4x` & `x^2=-32y`

A

`x+2y+4=0`

B

`2x+y+4=0`

C

`x-2y-4=0`

D

`x-2y+4=0`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

The equation of any tangent to `y^(2)=4x` is
`y=mx+1/m`
If it touches the parabola `x^(2)=-32y`, then equation
`x^(2)=-32(mx+1/m)`
i.e. `x^(2)+32mx+(32)/m=0rArrxm^(3)-1=0rArrm=1/2`
Substituting the value of m in (i), we get x - 2x + 4 = 0
