Seven white balls and three black balls ...

Seven white balls and three black balls are randomly placed in a row. The probability that no two black balls are placed adjacently, equals :

A

`(1)/(2)`

B

`(7)/(15)`

C

`(2)/(15)`

D

`(1)/(3)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

7 white and 3 black balls can be arranged in a row in `(10!)/(3!7!)` ways.
When 7 white balls are arranged in a row there are 8 place in between. In these 8 places 3 black balls can be arranged in `.^(8)C_(3)` ways.
`therefore` Required probability `=(.^(8)C_(3))/((10!)/(3!7!))=(7)/(15)`

Statement-1 : An urn contains m white and n black balls. All the balls except for one ball, are draw from it. The probability that the last ball remaining in the urn is white is equal to m/(m+n) . Statement-2 : An urn contains m white balls and n black balls. Balls are drawn one by one till all the balls are drawn. The probability that the second drawn ball is white is n/(m+n) . Statement-3 : An urn contains 6 balls, 3 white and 3 black ones, a person selected at random an even number of balls (all the different ways of drawing an even number of balls are considered equally probable, irrespective of their number). Then the probability that there will be the same numberof black and white balls among them is 11/15 .
