A ray of light along x+sqrt(3) y = sqrt(...

A ray of light along `x+sqrt(3) y = sqrt(3)` gets reflected upon reaching x-axis, the equation of the reflected ray is:

A

`y = x + sqrt3`

B

`sqrt3y = x - sqrt3`

C

`y = sqrt3 x - sqrt3`

D

`sqrt3y = x - 1`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

The line x + `sqrt3y = sqrt3` cuts y-axis at P(0,1) .
Clearly , its image Q (0,-1) lies on the reflected ray AR produced backward.

So , the equation of the reflected ray AR is
`y + 1 = (0 +1)/(sqrt3 - 0) (x - 0) or sqrt3 y = x - sqrt3`.
