Aliphatic and aromatic primary amines on warming with `CHCl_(3)` and alcoholic KOH form isocyanide or carbylamine which has very unpleasant smell . This reaction is known as carbylamin reaction .
since p- toluidine contains an aromatic primary amine group , it undergoes similar reaction and give 4- methyl phenyl isocyanide .
