Adding equations (3) and (4), we get
13x = 117
implies x = 9
Substituting x = 9 in equation (1), we get
`3 xx 9 - y = 23`
implies 27 - y = 23
implies -y -4
implies y = 4
Hence, the solution is `{:(x = 9),(y = 4):}}`
