Why is diffusion insufficient to meet the oxygen requirement of multicellular organisms like humans?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Oxygen reaches only the exterior surface as a result of diffusion. Humans are huge enough so that the diffused oxygen cannot reach all the target cells within. Hence a separate respiratory system and circulatory system is essential.
