Describe the formation of a rainbow in the sky with the help of a diagram.

Immediately after rain, the ater droplets in the atmosphere act like small prisms and they refract, dispere, and internally reflect the sunlight falling on them as shown in the figure. Thus, a beautiful spectrum of sunlight is seen in the sky known as rainbow. An observer standing with his back towards the sun observes the rainbow in the form of concentric circular arcs of different colours in the horizon.
