What is heating effect of current? Mention any two of its applications.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When current flows through a conductor, heat energy is generated in the conductor.
This is called heating effect of electric current.
Two applications of this effect are:
i] Electric bulb: Electric current heats up the filament of the bulb which then glows emitting light
ii] Electric fuse: When a high current flows through a fuse, its wire gets heated and melts breaking the circuit and protecting appliances.
