An object takes 5 s to reach the ground ...

An object takes 5 s to reach the ground from a height of 5 m on a planet. What is the value of g on the planet?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given :
time taken (t) = 5s, height (h) = 5 m
To find : Acceleration due to gravity (g)
Formula : `s=ut+(1)/(2)at^(2)`
Solution : As the object is dropped initial velocity, (u) = 0
Also, s = h, a = g
`s=ut+(1)/(2)at^(2)`
`thereforeh=(0)(t)+(1)/(2)at^(2)`
`5=(1)/(2)xxg(5)^(2)`
`thereforeg=(5xx2)/(5xx5)=0.4m//s^(2)`
The value of g on the planet is `0.4m//s^(2)`
