The mass and weight of an object on earth are 5 kg and 49 N respectively. What will be their values on the moon? Assume that the acceleration due to gravity on the moon is `1//6^(th)` of that on the earth.

Given :
Mass = 5 kg,
Weight = 49N
`g_(M)=(1)/(6)g_(E)^(2)`
To find : Mass and weigth of object on moon
Formula : `F=mg=(GM_(M))/(R^(2))`
Solution :
The mass of the object does not change
`thereforem_(E)=m_(M)=5kg`
Since, `W_(E)=mg_(E)`
`49=5g_(E)`
`thereforeg_(E)=(49)/(5)m//s^(2)`
Now, `g_(M)=(1)/(6)g_(E)`
`=(1)/(6)xx(49)/(5)`
`W_(M)=mg_(M)`
`=5xx(1)/(6)xx(49)/(5)`
`=(49)/(5)=8.17N`
Their value on the moon will be 8.17 N
