The masses of the earth and moon are `6xx10^(24)kgand7.4xx10^(22)kg,` respectively. The distance between them is `3.84xx10^(5)km.` Calculate the gravitational force of attraction between the two?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given :
Mass of earth `(M_(E))=6xx10^(24)kg`
Mass of moon `(M_(M))=7.4xx10^(22)kg`
Distance ( r) `3.84xx10^(5)km`
`=3.84xx10^(8)m`
`G=6.7xx10^(-11)Nm^(2)kg^(-2)`
To find : Gravitational force (F)
Formula : `F=(GM_(m))/(r^(2))`
Solution :
Here, `F=(GM_(E)M_(M))/(r^(2))`
`F=(6.7xx10^(-11)xx6xx10^(24)xx7.4xx10^(22))/(3.84xx10^(8))^(2)`
`=(6.7xx6xx7.4)/(3.84)^(2)xx(10^(35))/(10^(16))`
`=20.17xx10^(19)`
`=2.017xx10^(20)N`
`2xx10^(20)N`
The gravitational force of attraction between the earth and moon is `2xx10^(20)N`
