The ionic equation for the above reaction is `cr_(2) O_(7) ^(2-) + 8H^(+) + 3h_(2)S to 3S + Cr^(3+) + 7H_(2)O`
Therefore, when `H_(2)S` gas is passed through acidified `K_(2) Cr_(2) O_(7)` , hydrogen sulphide `(H_(2)S)` gets oxidised to sulphur
