Write a note on outbreeding devices.

Explanation

Flowering plants have developed many outbreeding devices in order to encourage cross-pollination.
These devices are
(i) Dichogamy in which maturation of male and female sex organs takes place at different times in bisexual flowers.
(ii) Dicliny It refers to the presence of only one kind of essential whorl in a flower.
(iii) Herkógamy It refers to the presence of a mechanical barrier between the compatible pollen and stigma.
(iv) Self-incompatibility In this condition, due to the presence of self-sterile genes, plants are unable to bring out fertilisation when pollen from same flower comes on the stigma.
