What are gestation and parturition?...

What are gestation and parturition?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The time period during which the embryo remains in the uterus, i.e. after the last day of menstruation to the day of parturition is called gestation. In humans, it lasts for about 9 months. Vigorous contraction of the uterus at the end of pregnancy causes expulsion or delivery of the foetus. This process of delivery of the foetus (child birth) by neuroendocrine mechanism is called parturition.
