Fertilisation is a complex process which involves the fusion of a haploid male gamete (which in animals are the spermatozoa) and a haploid female gamete (ovum) to form a diploid (2n) zygote. It takes place in the ampullary- isthmus junction of the Fallopian tube in the female reproductive system
